01) The Brief

Design a vinyl wrap for a traffic signal box as part of Artforce Brisbane, with nine boxes available across Brisbane. The design needed to be creative, site-appropriate, and suitable for public installation.

02) The Problem

I felt unsure if I was ready or “good enough” to take on such a public-facing project, especially with a competitive selection process and many talented artists involved. I also had to create a concept that worked both creatively and technically for a traffic box in a busy city environment.

03) The Solution

I chose to take the opportunity and developed Busy Bees in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall & Central Hive, a playful concept inspired by the movement, energy, and connection of Brisbane’s CBD. With support and feedback from my mentors and teachers at Billy Blue College of Design, I refined the design and submitted it. The final artwork was selected and installed in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD, becoming a major milestone in my creative journey.

04) Photos & Process

Below, I explore how Brisbane’s transport elements informed the design of Central Hive. Growing up in Brisbane, Queen Street was always a place where everything seemed to converge—a central hub where people “buzzed” in and out. This became the foundation for the busy bees concept, representing movement, community, and connection.
